It is about 30 minutes drive to Castleton in the Hope Valley where the Blue John caverns can be visited (www.bluejohn-cavern.com), as well as the nearby Chestnut Centre (www.chestnutcentre.co.uk) the otter and owl sanctuary.

For people less interested in out-door activities Manchester can be reached by train in less than half an hour (£3.30 return).
